State & Local Advocacy
WIA and its members partner with communities across the nation to affect solutions for wireless infrastructure deployment that are responsive to the unique sensitivities and concerns of each community.
WIA's advocacy efforts at the local level involves helping local governments revise zoning ordinances to facilitate rather than inhibit the deployment of next generation wireless networks. We work to educate local officials regarding their authority over the siting of wireless infrastructure and the retention of third party consultants to draft or revise a telecommunications ordinance and/or review applications for new and modified wireless telecommunications facilities.
WIA works with our network of State Wireless Associations (SWAs) to educate policy-makers about the importance of wireless infrastructure and the need for a reasonable review process. We also engage with the American Planning Association (APA), the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National League of Cities (NLC), presenting educational sessions, site tours and panel discussions on wireless infrastructures and land-use regulation.
